Toyota is primed to recall 2 million vehicles in Europe plus an additional 1 million in the U.S.
According to a recent report, Toyota's gas pedal recall will be expanded to Europe.
While details are limited, the Financial Times is reporting a Toyota spokesperson has said "The models and exact number of potentially affected vehicles is under investigation" and there is currently "no need or intention to stop production in Europe." Despite this, Japan's Yomiuri newspaper ran an article which stated the recall will involve 2 million vehicles in Europe.
As you may recall, Toyota has been facing mounting pressure in the United States as cases of unintended acceleration have been linked to 20 deaths and over 2,000 complaints. The company initially responded by issuing a recall of floor mats in nearly 2.5 million vehicles, but this failed to stop the problem. Yesterday, Toyota announced plans to stop North American production of eight models plus the additional of another 1 million vehicles in the U.S. to the recall.
