Fresh paint and some minor visual upgrades gives the 500L some edge.
The Fiat 500L doesn’t exactly pull off the adorable look quite as well as its smaller Fiat 500 sibling. Still, it’s an interesting vehicle – and some of us on staff are even quite fond of the small SUV. But in an effort to keep the polarizing design fresh, Fiat has introduced the City Cross edition, which actually gives the 500L a more rugged look.
The package, which will be limited to customers in continental Europe exclusively, will include all-new visual updates like bigger bumpers, new skid plates, a refreshed grille, and a raised ride height by approximately one inch (25 millimeters). A set of 17-inch alloy wheels come standard, while nine color options are available to choose from. The unique Sicilia Orange finish with a black roof is pictured here.
Similar color customization options extend to the cabin, which sees an enveloped dashboard fascia, available in either black or white, and black fabric seats with the "500" logo stitched throughout. Fiat says the multiple color options, both inside and out, offer customers "further customization options."
In the cabin, features like climate control and cruise control come standard. A new 3.5-inch color display screen, Bluetooth connectivity, and voice control are also standard on the package. Optional extras include a larger seven-inch HD touchscreen display, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Under the hood offers a range of engine options will be available. A 1.4-liter gas engine producing 95 horsepower (70 kilowatts) comes standard, followed by a slightly more powerful 105-hp (78-kW) 0.9-liter TwinAir engine. At the top of the range sits a 1.4-liter TwinJet engine capable of producing 120 hp (89 kW). There’s no diesel option, but there is a 1.4-liter T-Jet engine that can run on bi-fuel and LPG gas.
No word on how much the special package will cost when it goes on sale in just a few weeks.
