Davos Seaworth and Jon Snow battle G forces in two-seater Formula One cars.
We can no longer say that Jon Snow knows nothing. The famous "You know nothing, Jon Snow" is now null and void because the King in the North from the wildly popular series Game of Thrones has conquered the land of Monza. Actor Kit Harington was joined by Game of Thrones co-star Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth on the series, as each experienced the full force of Formula 1 in the back seat of two special tandem-seat Formula 1 demonstrators at the opening of this year’s Italian Grand Prix.
For the high-speed Italian stage, the two actors were invited for a few laps on the fastest circuit of the F1 season. They embarked on their journeys via two-seater F1 cars specially designed to give passengers a proper taste of what it’s like to race in the series. Their guides for the adventure were former F1 pros Patrick Friesacher and Zsolt Baumgartner, both of whom were drivers in the mid-2000s for team Minardi under the ownership of aviation tycoon Paul Stoddart. Ten years later, the three men are still connected in racing as part of the two-seater F1 program.
Watching the video, it’s safe to say both passengers were nervous even before hitting the course. F1 cars can exceed five times the force of gravity under braking, and six Gs in corners. If the video is any indication, they probably came close to those thresholds. In any case, it’s safe to say they were quite shell shocked by the experience.
“I was cursing at all of you for putting me in that thing!” said Harington. “That’s the most fun I’ve had. The first lap I think I was just surviving.”
“I wasn’t surviving!” countered Cunningham.
