The supercar smashed its original estimate of €380,000 ($452,820).
Update: At the RM Sotheby's Leggenda e Passione sale at Ferrari headquarters, this one-of-a-kind 488 Spider "Green Jewel" went home for an impressive €1.09 million ($1.3 million), well over its original estimate of €320,000 to €380,000 ($381,330 to $452,820).
This is the Ferrari 488 Spider "Green Jewel," and if that name sounds familiar, this was one of the five special edition Ferraris presented in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show honoring of the Italian marque’s 70th anniversary. Now it’s heading to auction this weekend as part of the RM Sotheby’s Leggenda e Passione sale at Ferrari headquarters.
The only example like it in the world, the 488 comes with a number of distinctive features that set it apart from the standard model, including an eye-searing green exterior finish, a two-tone red and black leather interior, gold wheels, and the number 25 plastered on the door panels. The look was inspired by David Piper’s legendary 356 P2, which won the Kyalami 9 Hours race in 1965 and 1966.
Following its debut in Paris, the car made multiple appearances at events around the world, including the Shanghai Auto Show, and the Finals in 2016. The car has never been publicly owned, and shows only delivery mileage. The 488 will be offered up directly from Ferrari.
Apart from the obvious green exterior, the car is completely bone stock. The same 3.9-liter V8 remains from the factory producing 660 horsepower (492 kilowatts), allowing for a 0-60 mile-per-hour (96 kilometers per hour) sprint of about 3.0 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph (329 kmh). Though the standard 488 Spider will set you back a cool $272,000, this particular example is worth a bit more than that. RM Sotheby’s estimates that it will go for anywhere form €320,000 to €380,000 ($381,330 to $452,820) when it crosses the block.
The RM Sotheby’s Leggenda e Passione sale will take place Saturday, February 9th, 2017 at Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, and will see not only this handsome 488 Spider, but also a number of unique offerings, including an 812 Superfast wind tunnel scale model, and a Ferrari Daytona 'Alloy' barn find.

Offered here is one of the first of Ferrari’s 70th Anniversary cars to be announced. Featured at the 2016 Paris Motor Show alongside an F12 Berlinetta, a California T and a 488 GTB in different liveries, the livery on this 488 Spider was dubbed ‘The Green Jewel’. This will be the only 488 Spider built as such. Inspired by David Piper’s 365 P2, which won the Kyalami 9 Hours in 1965 and 1966, the car is outfitted with a number of unique features from the Tailor Made department. These include metallic Green paintwork, roundels on the door with #25, larger airbrushed Scuderia shields and gold wheels. The special features continue inside with a duo-tone Nero and Rosso interior trimmed in richer Siam furniture leather, as well as aluminium and carbon fibre trim, for a sportier appearance.
Arguably the most recognizable of the 70th anniversary liveries, following its unveiling at Paris, the car was shown at the Finali Mondiali in Daytona, as well as at the Shanghai Auto Show in April of 2017.
With only delivery mileage accrued during its show career, offered here is a singular opportunity to acquire what is perhaps the most famous 488 Spider, directly from the factory.
