The all-new 2010 Astra made its way into the Opel stand at Frankfurt. When it goes on sale in Europe this autumn it will have engines that include a 1.6-litre turbo producing 180hp.

Opel shrugged off current corporate delays over its tie-up with Magna and unveiled the all-new 2010 Astra at Frankfurt. The 5-door hatch, also known as the Vauxhall Astra in the UK is attempting to spark renewed interest in the entire brand.

Engines to accompany the launch cars include a 1.4 petrol turbo with 88kW (120hp) and a 1.6 turbo making 132kW (180hp). The latter is sourced from the reigning European car of the Year, the Insignia.

Interior design inspiration is no secret; again the Insignia was called upon to provide it. That's not a bad thing at all because the Insignia is a very good looking car, inside and out. Plenty of features like CD/ MP3 players, air conditioning, power steering, satellite navigation and more will make owners happy.

The new Astra goes on sale in Europe this autumn.
