Prodrive has developed a new production-ready ECU specifically for the control of hydrogen fuel cells as part of a programme part funded by the Technology Strategy Board.

Prodrive together with Intelligent Energy have developed a new hydrogen fuel cell ECU (Engine Control Unit). The PP150 is production ready and specifically designed for use on the 50 kW fuel cell system developed by Intelligent Energy. Making it the first in the UK fuel cell industry. The project was partly funded by the Technology Strategy Board and DTI over a three year timespan.

The companies hope to build a fuel cell for real world applications. For automotive usage, the fuel cell should be able to start at sub-zero temperatures. This has been achieved with its operating temperature between -40 and + 75 degrees celcius. The PP150 is production ready and should cost approximately GBP 250 per unit.
