Another day, another crash at the 2017 FOS.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed has taken another victim - Ed Berrier's NASCAR Chevrolet, which crashed on the first turn of the hill. We can’t be certain about what made the silver-blue number 88 Chevy go of the track and slam into the hay, but our first and approximate guess is that the tires were cold.
What’s the actual reason for the crash will remain a mystery, at least for now, but a video of the accident uploaded on the festival’s YouTube channel reveals the car suffered heavy damage at the front left wheel. The steering system was destroyed and Berrier’s attempts to get the car back on the asphalt were unsuccessful.
As far as we are aware, this is the fourth major crash at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. It all started with Pat Doran sliding his Ford RS200 Evo 2 into the hay on Thursday. Fortunately, a day later, one of the all 24 produced examples of the Group B rally legend was recovered and ready to hit the tarmac again.
Yesterday, another great vehicle was crashed. Only a few seconds into the run, Heinz Swoboda from AF Corse team lost control of his Ferrari 458 GT2 while exiting a left-hand corner and smashed into the hay on the right side of the track. Meanwhile, Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg crashed his Nissan 370Z while smoking some rubber.
