Mercedes has officially unveiled their new high-performance E63 AMG at the New York Auto Show.

Based on the recently introduced 2010 E-Class sedan, the new E63 boasts aggressive exterior styling touches which hint at the monster that resides under the hood. The most noticeable design cue is the car's new front bumper which features massive air intakes and LED daytime running lights. Elsewhere there are bold 18-inch AMG wheels, a discreet rear diffuser, and four exhaust pipes.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter (6208 cc) V8 engine that produces 525 hp (386kW) and 465 lb-ft (630Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a new seven-speed Speedshift MCT automatic transmission that can change gears in just 100 milliseconds. Thanks to the new gearbox and several minor modifications to the engine's fuel management software, the new E63 boasts a nearly 12 percent increase in fuel economy compared to the outgoing model.

To ensure that the E63 AMG handles like a true sports car, Mercedes equipped it with the newly developed AMG Ride Control sports suspension which automatically adjusts the vehicle's damping to best suit the current driving situation.

The new E63 AMG will go on sale in the UK in September while an American launch is planned for November.
