Built in California by Divergent Technologies, the Blade is the only 3D-printed supercar in the world.
The Divergent Blade is a vehicle unlike any other. It lays claim to being the world’s "first 3D printed supercar," and comes powered by a 720-horsepower (521-kilowatt) Mitsubishi Evo engine. The body is a mix of aluminum, titanium, and carbon fiber, and it's completely street legal, though the company says it wants to focus on outsourcing the technology at the moment.
Though it made its debut nearly two years ago at the Pebble Beach Concours in California, the company has finally decided to let Jay Leno have a go in it. Because that’s what you do when you have a new supercar. Together with Founder and CEO Kevin Czinger, Jay takes a detailed look at the supercar before taking it out on the road.
With the aforementioned 720-hp (521 kW) engine under the hood, the Blade is good for a 0-60 mile-per-hour (96 kilometers per hour) sprint of just 2.5 seconds, and a top speed of somewhere near 200 mph (321 kmh). It uses aluminum Nodes in its construction, and the platform can accommodate any sort of powertrain, gas or otherwise. The entire car tips the scales at just 1,388 pounds (629 kilograms), making it about 90 percent lighter than most traditional supercars.
But wait, there’s more. Alongside the Divergent Blade supercar, CEO Kevin Czinger brought along an upgraded Kawasaki H2 motorcycle that’s about 20 percent lighter than the factory model thanks to Divergent 3D construction. Just five parts were used in the construction of the frame compared to the nearly 100 on the standard bike. The two vehicles together make up one truly futuristic lineup.
