A crash on the track gives us the opportunity to take a good look at Lamborghini's upcoming convertible supercar.
Seeing a Lamborghini drive slowly around the Nürburgring is a rare sight, particularly for the Huracán Performante that’s capable of a lap record around the famous circuit. However, this video of the Performante Spyder limping around the ‘Ring offers a fantastic opportunity to check out the droptop supercar ahead of its full debut.
Early in this clip, there’s a crash along the side of the track that forces the Performante Spyder’s driver to go so slow. The person doesn’t significantly increase the car’s speed once the road is clear, though.
Based on this video and earlier spy shots, it appears that the Performante Spyder has all the coupe’s go-fast goodies plus the ability to lower the roof. The front fascia, big wing, and high-mounted exhausts on this test mule look identical to the components on the hardtop.
Lamborghini presumably uses the same tuned naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 for the Performante Spyder that the firm installs in the coupe. The mill pumps out 630 horsepower (470 kilowatts) and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque. Extensive use of Lambo’s Forged Composite carbon fiber allows the Performante hardtop to shed 88 pounds (40 kilograms) over the standard Huracán, so expect a similar diet for the droptop.
While not evident in this video, the increase in power and drop in weight allows for a major improvement in performance. The tweaks for the coupe slice 0.3 seconds off the run to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour), and the acceleration upgrade should apply to the Spyder, too.
Since engineering for the Performante coupe is already complete, Lambo’s engineers shouldn’t need to do much extra work for getting the Spyder ready. A public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September seems possible. The hardtop sells for $274,390 in the United States, 195,040 euros in Europe, and 173,271 pounds in the United Kingdom, and the convertible would likely start at an even higher price.
