Hyundai´s compact SUV Tucson will change its name to ix35 when coming out on the market in February 2010. Next month Hyundai will show the concept car in Geneva, named HED-6 ix-ONIC and now Hyundai are testing their prototypes in Northern Sweden. The production version of the ix35 will be unveiled in Frankfurt in September.

The iX35 will be available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. The entry-level ix35 models will have a new 1.6 liter direct-injection petrol unit with 140 horsepower. This engine will only be available with front-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Looking for a front-wheel drive and diesel combination? Then the 1.7 liter CDRi together with a six-speed gearbox will be your choice.

Four-wheel drive combinations include a 2.0 liter petrol unit delivering 160 horsepower with 5-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic plus the choice of the 2.0 CDRi in two versions with 136 or 173 horsepower. Both with 6-speed manual, but the stronger version will also be available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The iX35 will also get Hyundai´s ISG start-stop technology immediately from launch, making it one of the lowest-emission vehicles in its class.
