New diesel engines offer 175 and and 205 hp respectively. The D4 and D5 are both 2.4 liter, 5 cylinder diesels with 420 Nm of torque. The D4 is a single turbo charged with 175 hp. The D5 is a twin-turbo with 205 hp.
Volvo may be playing catch-up with diesel technology in the premium brand sector but these new diesel engines are precisely what was needed.
These two new single and twin-turbo charged 2.4 liter, 5 cylinder diesels from Volvo offer competitive power and fuel economy against the premium market competition of the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
First up is the D4, a 2.4 liter, single-turbocharged diesel engine with 175 hp and 420 Nm of torque. This engine is designed for medium-performance and maximum efficiency with a fuel economy of 5.8 liters/100 km (48.7 mpg UK) (CO2 emissions of 154g/km) when placed under the bonnet of the full-sized S80 sedan.
The second is the real performer, though. The D5 is a twin-turbocharged 2.4 liter diesel with a power output of 205 hp and 420 Nm. The D5 is already available in the S80 sedan, providing fuel economy of 6.2 liters/100 km (45.5 mpg UK) and CO2 emissions of 164 g/km.
Both engines will be available in the Volvo V70, XC60, XC70 as well as in the S80 by the spring.
