Maybe Ford can finally start revealing more details about the supercar like its price and exact engine output.
The automotive world is nearing the two-year anniversary of the Ford GT’s debut in January 2015 at the North American International Auto Show, and now the very first production example is complete. The Blue Oval intends to build 1,000 of them over the next four years, which keeps assembly limited to just 250 units per year.
"When we kicked off 2016, we had two primary objectives for our Ford GT supercar - to excel at Le Mans, and to start deliveries before year-end," Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president for global product development, said. "We've achieved both."
Multimatic, which generally builds race cars, produces the GT at a special low-volume assembly facility in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Ford requires the dealers selling them to have specially trained service technicians and to have trailer available for picking up the supercar up for service appointments.For a vehicle that is now in production, Ford still remains rather shy about divulging details about the GT. For example, the company still only says that the 3.5-liter biturbo EcoBoost V6 produces “over 600 horsepower,” which is incredibly vague. The Blue Oval also doesn’t publicly release the supercar’s price. However, the company already selected the first 500 customers, so presumably the automaker told the buyers about the price. Rumors have estimated the figure around $400,000 before options like carbon fiber wheels.
Because of the limited quantity and high demand, Ford accepted applications from people who wanted to buy the new GT. The company received 6,506 completed entries for the initial run of supercars.
