The calling card of the legendary Mazda RX-7 sports car was its 1.3-liter-equivalent biturbo rotary engine. In top trim, it would produce as much as 274 horsepower (204 kilowatts) and 263 pound-feet (357 Newton-meters) of torque. While enthusiasts continue to scour the web for original examples with original engines, this LS2-swapped aftermarket special presents a unique alternative.
Put together by the mad scientists at Hinson Supercars, this V8-wielding RX is up for sale on eBay for a reasonable $36,000. Under the hood, the Chevy-sourced 6.0-liter V8 produces 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) – up a healthy bump from the stock version – and features a T-56 six-speed manual transmission that allegedly lets you spin the tires all the way to fourth.
From the pictures alone, the car looks to be in superb condition. The exterior features the same Winning Silver Metallic finish that came from the factory new, and pairs with a set of silver aftermarket wheels that don’t take away from the original aesthetic. The black leather seats and vinyl dash on the interior remain original, with only some minor wear and tear appropriate to age.
The car has logged 76,500 miles (123,114 kilometers) in total, though the seller doesn’t specify how many of those miles have been on the new LS2. He does note, thankfully, that everything on the car is in working condition – including the air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, and airbags – and that it's had no issues and no accidents to date.
It’s up for sale in Bloomington, Indiana, with the aforementioned 'Buy It Now' price of $36,000. Seven days are still left on the auction, so there’s still plenty of time to find space in your garage for this sexy sports car mashup.
