It won't turn any heads that's for sure, but even so the evolutionary design should make it more appealing.

The Q3 has just received a second facelift, but spy shots from May have shown Audi is already working on the all-new model. Unfortunately, the prototype was heavily camouflaged to block the crossover’s styling, which is expected to be a refinement of the current model rather than a complete redesign. The attached render tries to predict the future of the posh crossover, proposing a sharper exterior in line with the all-new Q5 introduced a few months ago in Paris.

Seeing as how Audi now has the Q2 acting as its entry-level crossover, chances are the all-new Q3 will grow in size a little bit as a way to distance itself from its smaller brother. Even though it’s going to be bigger, it won’t actually be fatter than today’s model taking into account it will make the switch to the VW Group’s flexible MQB platform. As a matter of fact, the 2018 Q3 is actually expected to shave off some fat, despite the increased footprint.

By using MQB underpinnings, it means the next Q3 will be powered by a wide variety of three- and four-cylinder turbocharged engines. Front-wheel drive is going to be standard, but the beefier engines will be optionally hooked up to the grippy Quattro AWD setup. Depending on engine choice, Audi will offer its plush crossover with a six-speed manual gearbox and an S tronic dual-clutch transmission.

Further down the line, a more frugal plug-in hybrid derivative is expected to join the lineup, while a new RS Q3 is likely being planned as well to serve as the range topper.

Expect the next-gen Audi Q3 to debut in the latter part of next year, quite possibly in September 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show before going on sale either by the year’s end or the beginning of 2018. Production for European markets will be moved from SEAT's factory in Martorell, Spain to Audi's plant in Gyor, Hungary where the TT Coupe, TT Roadster, A3 Sedan, and A3 Cabriolet are being assembled.
