Hours after unveiling the Opel / Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport, GM is now showing us its Australian counterpart.

Billed as being the “most advanced Commodore ever,” the new version will basically be a rebadged variant of the Insignia Grand Sport. The model destined to be sold in the Land Down Under will be launched at the beginning of 2018 and is going to be available from day one in a naturally-aspirated V6 3.6-liter flagship guise with 308 horsepower (230 kilowatts) and 273 pound-feet (370 Newton-meters) of torque. That's a bump in output of 27 hp (20 kW) and 15 lb-ft (20 Nm) compared to the current specification of the engine. This version will come as standard with an all-wheel-drive layout and a nine-speed automatic transmission, with the latter representing a first for Holden.

Compared to the outgoing RWD Commodore, its successor will shave off a whopping 441 pounds (200 kilograms) and will be sold locally in liftback and wagon body styles. Lesser versions are going to have a FWD setup and will be powered by smaller turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline and diesel engines. As it’s going to be the case with the Opel/Vauxhall-badged Insignia Grand Sport, the all-new Holden Commodore will take advantage of torque vectoring and is going to boast GM’s latest version of the FlexRide chassis with dampers that are going to automatically adapt based on road conditions 500 times each second.

It’s the same story with the exterior and interior design as only the badges will be different. The Australia-bound Commodore will feature a wide array of kit, including heated and ventilated massage seats, head-up display, matrix LED headlights, eight-inch infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, along with a power liftgate for the more practical wagon body style.

As you probably know already, the 2018 Holden Commodore is not going to be built locally. Instead, cars are going to be assembled in Germany and then shipped to Australia.
