Chili peppers, distilled vinegar, garlic, sugar, and salt. These are the main ingredients used by Huy Fong Foods to make its well-known hot sauce. For reasons beyond our understanding, Sriracha has served as a theme for a one-off Lexus IS debuting today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The unique car was modified by West Coast Customs and the first order of business was to give the sporty sedan a unique “Sriracha Red” paint adorned with flecks of chili-like flakes in a bid to resemble the sauce.
The spindle grille’s frame now has green accents also noticeable on the brake calipers, mirror caps, and inside the cabin as a nod to the sauce bottle’s green cap. As a final touch, there’s special badging on the fenders, door wells, as well as at the back. Overall, it looks like something suitable for Aprils Fools’ Day, but it’s actually not since the car exists and it’s currently under the glamorous spotlight of the L.A. show.
In the words of Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing: ”The new Lexus IS is so hot, we decided to make it Sriracha hot, with all the custom details every Sriracha fan will appreciate.” Speaking of which, Lexus hilariously mentions the IS’ handling “is so hot, custom oven mitts are necessary.”
The peculiar theme continues on the inside where the leather-wrapped seats come with green accents and have embroidered Huy Fong rooster and Sriracha IS logos. There’s even a selectable Sriracha driving mode, which upon activation will enable quicker gear shifts and more dynamic throttle mapping, so they say... Even the climate control and seat warmer settings have been modified and now vary from cool to, you’ve guessed it, Sriracha hot.
“For emergency condiment situations,” there are no less than 43 sauce bottles stuffed inside the trunk. Once you run out of the spicy sauce because obviously you can’t get enough of it, you’ll be able to use some more from the custom key fob that has an “emergency chili button.” Hit it and then sauce is going to be dispensed from a nozzle on the fob.
To top it all off, Lexus went to the trouble of creating two special jackets on which Sriracha IS images and patches have been plastered to mark the unusual collaboration.
