Only 1,000 of the black-and-white Jukes will be sold in the U.S.

Quirky and cool as it is, the Nissan Juke is getting a little long in the tooth these days, though a new one is expected to arrive next year. The Japanese automaker has kept it relatively fresh over the years, launching the Nismo and RS (and holy-crap Juke R) models, not to mention the Color Studio that helps customers personalize their weirdo hatchbacks. In fact, it's that latter department that's responsible for the Juke you see here: It's called the Black Pearl Edition, and it'll greet the world at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show next week.

This limited-run Juke starts as a mid-grade SV model, and adds a unique Super Black paint job; Pearl White accents on the mirrors, chin, and roof spoiler; and gloss black 17-inch wheels. Inside, the black cloth seats get white inserts and contrast stitching.

Otherwise, it's your standard Juke, complete with the 1.6-liter turbo-four engine, good for 188 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Black Pearl Editions only come with the SV model's continuously variable transmission, though buyers can choose between front- and all-wheel drive.

Only 1,250 of the Black Pearl Edition Jukes will be made, with 1,000 coming to the United States and the other 250 bound for Canada. The Black Pearl pack costs $1,190, on top of the $22,550 MSRP of the Juke SV (or $24,400, if you're going AWD).

More details are available in the press blast below, and you can get a better look at the BPE Juke in the attached gallery.

In an automotive world with seemingly ever-confusing vehicle and model names, the 2017 Nissan JUKE Black Pearl Edition is hard to misunderstand. It’s Super Black and features Pearl White exterior accents. And, it adds a surprisingly bold appearance to a vehicle that, since introduction, has had a style and personality most accurately described as “extroverted.”

“JUKE has always followed its own path as a distinctive urban sport cross, standing apart from ordinary crossover SUVs from both design and performance aspects,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “The new Black Pearl Edition continues JUKE’s performance formula while adding a bold-on-bold appearance inside and out.” 1

Just 1,250 units will be built – 1,000 to be sold in the United States and 250 in Canada. JUKE Black Pearl Edition package has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)1 of $1,190 USD. The 2017 JUKE SV is priced at $22,550 USD for the front-wheel drive model and $24,400 USD for the all-wheel drive model.

Starting with a well-equipped JUKE SV (with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive), the Black Pearl Edition provides aftermarket style personalization straight from the factory. It is the third such vehicle created by the JUKE Color Studio, following the previous “Yellow Stinger” and “Black Stinger” editions. “Black Pearl” also draws on Nissan heritage, reviving a name originally used on a limited edition 1978 280Z model.

The modifications to the Black Pearl Edition exterior begin up front with white bumper accents and white outside trim rings on the distinctive JUKE headlights. On the sides, white door handles and white caps for the heated outside rearview mirrors continue the theme, leading into the white rear spoiler and white accents on the rear bumper. A special Black Pearl Edition badge completes the exterior enhancements.

Exclusive Super Black-painted 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels mounted with 215/55R17 all- season tires complement the JUKE high stance and sporty driving position.

Inside, the Black Pearl Edition includes black cloth heated front seats with white inserts and stitching, white and black cloth door trim inserts and white power window switch finishers. The signature JUKE motorcycle-style center console is painted white, while the steering wheel features white stitching. Completing the high-contrast interior appearance are white air vent trim rings and white accents on the shift knob.

Like all 2017 JUKE models (non-NISMO), the Black Pearl Edition features a 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) Turbo, 16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque – combining spirited performance and good fuel economy. Direct injection helps improve combustion, enhancing power, torque, economy and emissions. The use of the turbocharger and intercooler helps boost power, while the variable timing control for both intake and exhaust cycles improves low-end engine response. One transmission is offered – Nissan’s advanced Xtronic transmission with Manual Mode and D-step Logic Control that simulates shifts, giving a natural acceleration feeling without holding a high rpm constant. Fuel economy for JUKE front-wheel drive models is rated at 28/32/29 mpg city/highway/combined. 2017 JUKE all-wheel drive models are rated at 26/30/28 mpg city/highway/combined. JUKE features a standard independent MacPherson strut front suspension and torsion beam rear suspension, while JUKE AWD models offer a multi-link rear suspension design. Also standard is vehicle-speed-sensing electric power-assisted steering. Braking is supplied by power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. Also like all 2017 JUKE models, the Black Pearl Edition interior offers ample roominess and space for five adults. The combination of the fold-down 60/40-split bench seat and flat load floor provides passenger and cargo hauling flexibility. Standard features include RearView Monitor, Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, USB connection port for iPod® interface and other compatible devices, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, 5.0-inch color display, Streaming audio via Bluetooth®, Siri® Eyes Free and Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant2. Every 2017 JUKE comes equipped with the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification sensors. Also featured are roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags for front and rear outboard occupant head protection, seat-mounted driver and front passenger side-impact supplemental air bags. Other standard equipment includes LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system, Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System, Vehicle Security System (VSS), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS).

About JUKE Color Studio

“For JUKE buyers seeking the Black Pearl Edition’s high level of personalization but who want a different color combination or other accessories, the popular JUKE Color Studio provides exactly what they are looking for,” said Bunce.

JUKE Color Studio offers the ability to personalize both the exterior and interior with a range of “color packs” to dramatically change the look and feel of the JUKE. For example, accessory 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are available with color inserts to match or contrast the JUKE body color.

Special color accents can also be applied to the outside rearview mirror caps, side sills, rear roof spoiler and door handles. Interior color packs are offered for the door trim and other elements. Eight colors are available – Red, Yellow, Orange, White, Matte Black, Electric Blue, Black Purple and Carbon-Fiber Look – and a total of 12 accessories, giving owners the option of creating a vehicle that is a unique expression of their style and personality.

The “affordable personalization” Color Studio offers easy online configuration and the ability to install the custom color parts and accessories at home or through authorized Nissan dealer’s parts and service facilities. Color Studio accessories are sold individually and can be included in vehicle financing or lease payments. For full details on the JUKE Color Studio program, please visit www.NissanNews.com.
