Steve Saleen has announced that his new company, SMS, will build an all-new family of high performance versions of the 2010 Ford Mustang. Following quickly on the heels of the SMS 570 and SMS 570X Dodge Challenger's, the new 460 Mustangs will mark the company's first attempt to transform a Ford product. While this is the first Mustang created by Saleen to wear a SMS label, Steve has been tuning Mustangs for 25 years and has garnered a lot of respect for his ability to turn standard Mustangs into the performance animals they always wanted to be.
The standard 4.6-liter V8 engine from the 2010 Mustang GT produces 315 hp, but thanks to a SMS supercharger the 460 Mustang will produce between 475 and 650 horsepower. A new SMS Red Butterfly Induction hood helps to give the 460 an aggressive appearance while elsewhere the exterior was tweaked to improve the car's aerodynamics. Other changes include upgrades to the suspension, tires, wheels and interior.
The limited edition SMS 460 Mustang can be ordered though the entire Ford dealer network and deposits are now being accepted for models that will go into production in the second quarter of 2009.
