One sweet Speedster and a super cool RF grace Mazda's Vegas stand.
The MX-5 Miata is a real featherweight of a car, but some devoted Mazda engineers wanted to put in on an even bigger diet.
At last year’s SEMA show, Mazda debuted the MX-5 Speedster Concept, which was 150-pounds lighter than the stock car. And now we’ve got a new version of it, the Speedster Evolution, which sheds another 100 pounds – this thing weighs only 1,980 pounds.
How did they get all of the mass out? Well, obviously there’s no roof or windshield; there’s carbon fiber everywhere, including the door panels, the aero kit, and the bucket seats inside. We’ve also got a lighter batter, and lighter brakes all the way around. To top it off, this car gets the adjustable suspension, tires, and Rays wheels from the MX-5 Cup car.
In other words: It goes, just as well as it looks.
