The Italian supercars plays a pivotal role in the superhero movie, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange.
Lamborghini stars in yet another superhero movie, the Huracan appearing the Marvel’s latest release, Doctor Strange.
The Grigio Lynx Huracan is the car of choice for Dr. Stephen Strange, as played by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), a world-renowned neurosurgeon who acquires magical powers while recovering from a car accident. It appears at what is described as “a key turning point in the movie’s plot”.
Doctor Strange isn’t the first rich man turned superhero to drive a Lamborghini, of course, Bruce Wayne taking to the wheel of both a Murcielago and an Aventador in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. (Tony Stark - aka Iron Man - drives the Huracan-related Audi R8, so you could count that, as well.)
Lamborghini Chairman Stefano Domenicali said: “Lamborghini was unquestionably the perfect fit for this project as the Huracan naturally unleashes one’s inner superhero. The unique story of this new kind of hero mirrors that of the raging bull’s visionary founder Ferruccio Lamborghini; a man capable of creating cars that induce dreams in those who see them, and thrills those who drive them.
“Much like many Lamborghini owners, Doctor Strange is a bold, ambitious and pioneering character who reaches beyond the realm of the ordinary and thrives in any situation, despite the challenges ahead,” Domenicali added.
The mid-engined Huracan is powered by a naturally aspirated, 5.2-liter V10 engine, producing 580 or 610 horsepower (433 or 455 kilowatts). The former sends drive of the rear wheels, the latter to all four, both via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Either way, the 0 to 60 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) sprint is dispatched in less than 3.5 seconds, and top speed is around the 200 mph (320 km/h) mark.
The Huracan was on display at the Los Angeles premiere of Doctor Strange, appearing alongside Cumberbatch and co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale), and Tilda Swinton (A Bigger Splash). Scott Derrickson (Sinister) directs.
Doctor Strange is in theaters nationwide from November 4. Watch the trailer below.
