The latest action-packed installment in BMW Film’s The Hire series, The Escape, goes live today (October 23) at 6:00 pm EST. You can watch it at

Clive Owen (Children of Men) returns as The Driver, and he’s managed to get himself the all-new 2017 5 Series sedan. Along for the ride is a young celebrity played by Dakota Fanning (War of The Worlds), who is being pursued by dark forces, led by Jon Bernthal (The Punisher). Vera Farmiga (Up in The Air) also stars, while Neill Blomkamp (District 9) directs.

What should have been a simple chauffeuring job quickly turns into a life or death situation for both The Driver and his passenger. Gunfights and explosions ensue, while The Driver takes his shiny new 5 Series to the ragged edge to keep his charge safe.

You can watch the trailers below.

BMW Films first produced The Hire back in 2001. Eight short films were made, each following The Driver as he went from job to job, none of which ever seemed to go entirely to plan. Big-name actors starred alongside then-rising-star Owen, while some of the best action directors in the business took the helm.

Each of the first five films highlighted a different model in the BMW range. The series returned in 2003 for a further three installments, centered around the then-new Z4 sports car.

The films racked up more than 100 million views in the four years the BMW Films website was live. A remarkable achievement before high-speed connections, Youtube, and Facebook. There’s an argument to be made that they were the first truly viral videos.

Brand BMW head Hildegard Wortmann said: “When we commissioned The Escape, our only direction was that the story remain of utmost importance - and that it should live up to the standards set by The Hire. Neill, Clive, and the entire cast did a tremendous job and we are confident that The Escape not only meets that standard, but sets a new one.”
