Volvo has long been regarded as producing some of the safest vehicles around but now the company has gone ever farther, protecting passengers from sneezing. The company recently became the only manufacturer in the automotive industry to offer a complete model range featuring textiles that are certified according to the Oeko-Tex standard for being allergy-friendly.

The company considers this an achievement because they believe it will give consumers a great sense of security because about 35-40% of us suffer from allergies or over-sensitivity of one sort or another. Volvo first began making vehicles that met the Oeko-Tex standard when they launched the Volvo S80 back in 1998.

To meet the standard all the textiles inside the passenger compartment are tested, even the floor mats and seat belts. The tests determine if over a 100 substances or emissions exceed a certain level, if they do not the vehicle passes.
