Peugeot unveil Prologue at Paris, a new concept in crossover vehicle design that with it introduces the firm's latest generation in hybrid technology: HYmotion4. Peugeot are keen to stress the concept's hybridity in every sense of the word; in exterior architecture, dynamic style, modular interior and its advanced all-wheel-drive diesel-electric hybrid drivetrain.
The Prologue is a fusion of concepts which, enhanced further by Peugeot's improved hybrid drivetrain, each contribute their own benefits to the project. Drawing on the architecture of several body styles for optimal ergonomics, the Prologue HYmotion4 boasts a versatile but equally aspirational interior, combining the luxuries of leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and an aviation-referencing central console with the flexibility of a modular seating and stowage system.
Two drivetrains driven to four wheels: the Prologue introduces the combined working of Peugeot's 163 hp 2.0-litre HDi FAP diesel engine with 200 Nm of torque powering the front wheels while an electric motor with up to 27 kW (36 hp) of power and 200Nm of torque drive the rear wheels.
This system allows for efficiencies without compromising on performance, namely the provision of just 109g/km of CO2 output in dual-fuel mode. Otherwise producing zero emissions without the support of the diesel engine, the Prologue achieves fuel consumption of 4.1l/100km (57.3 mpg) - aided not least by regenerative braking, STOP & START fuel-saving technology and an intelligent drive mode selector.
