Caterham's 2009 R300 Superlight offers a 175-horsepower 2.0 liter Ford Zetec engine and upgraded suspension.

Caterham’s best-selling Superlight R300 model returns to Ford power with its 2009 model. With a 175 horsepower 2.0 liter Zetec four-cylinder under the hood, the newest Caterham is capable of 4.5-second 0-60 sprints and offers serious twisty-road thrills. At only 515kg (1135 lbs), the Superlight R300 is making 339 bhp per ton. A six-speed manual transmission transfers power to the road, and the newest Caterham tops out at 140mph.

Amazing handling isn’t a surprise, though; this is Caterham, after all. That much is obvious from the familiar face. Under the skin, the Superlight R300 picks up some of the new features available on the Caterham Superlight R500, such as a redesigned dash and keyless ignition. Track-day extras include a limited-slip differential, dry-sump oil system and Stack data logging instruments. Pricing starts at £24,995 in component form, and £27,995 factory built.

Also bowing is a new touring-focused Roadsport 175, which shares the Superlight R300’s 2.0 Zetec engine. A five-speed transmission with freeway-friendly gearing and improved weather protection, as well as a heater, set the Roadsport 175 apart as the daily-driver of the family. It’s got smaller 14-inch wheels and a slightly softer suspension as well. Prices for the Roadsport 175 start at £21,995 in component form and £24,995 for factory built.
