It seems like not a single car meet goes by without a reckless Mustang driver wrecking as they attempt to leave. And it happened yet again last weekend at a Cars and Coffee meet in Houston, Texas.
This time, the Mustang in question is a 2016 Shelby GT350, whose 526 horsepower (392 kilowatts) is clearly more than the driver can handle. As the driver exits the meet, he mashes the gas and slides the tail out. He almost gathers it back up, but the car only straightens momentarily before snapping back around and skittering off towards the crowd gathered on the sidewalk.
Fortunately, there’s a substantial curb with stops the GT350 in its tracks before it reaches the crowd. Good thing too, as there’s a number of children stood exactly where it would have ended up.
Another spectator caught the crash from a different angle.
The driver - who looks old enough to know better - quickly emerges and doesn’t seem to appreciate the gravity of what just happened. He’s quickly surrounded by a number of men, one of whom appears to be showing a badge and telling the crowd to back up.
At the time of writing, it isn’t known if the driver will face any legal consequences, but his car’s busted rear suspension could well end up being the least of his concerns.
It's great that Cars and Coffee meetings are such a big draw for spectators, but where there are large crowds, there will always be idiot drivers out to impress. And with so many incidents like this - not just involving Mustangs - occurring at car meets across the country, many events are cracking down on driver behavior and sanctioning anyone who acts recklessly. Not only does it put spectators at risk, it puts the future of the event in jeopardy if local authorities decide they would rather ban the meet than risk members of the public getting hurt.
Be safe out there, people.
