You gotta love the Brits, every now and then a new unexpected surprise pops up out of nowhere and today come as no exception with the first pictures of the hand-built Breckland Beira - a new soft-top 2-seater sportscar we never knew existed.

The General Motors Kappa platform which is currently used by the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Opel GT provides the underpinnings for the new model. Power comes courtesy of the Chevrolet Corvette's old LS2, 6-litre V8 engine producing just under 400bhp, looking at performance figures the 0-60mph time is said to be sub 5-seconds and the top speed lies at 155mph.

“We didn’t set out to reinvent the wheel with Beira,” says Engineering Director, Mark Easton. “The Kappa platform offers a highly competent chassis, which has been subject to intensive crash and safety tests, and is readily available.

“Beira carries on from where Marcos and TVR left off in terms of providing maximum performance for money spent, and real individuality. We wanted to showcase Breckland’s design and engineering capabilities and produce an exciting driver’s car, with excellent handling dynamics, terrific performance and great looks,” says Breckland Director, Mike Rawlings.

“We also looked seriously at environmental concerns and, as a result, Beira is designed to run on Liquefied Petroleum Gas as well as petrol,” he added.

The exterior receives a unique styling package showing some classic design cues accustomed to British marques, much of the heavy steel panels have been replaced with lightweight composites to save weight and boost performance. The interior features the basic entertainment and safety features you would expect but don't expect anything mesmerising here.

The Breckland Beira will go on sale this November with an expected retail price of £55,000 and it will make its debut at the London Motorexpo next week for those of you looking to get an early look.
