Innovation in infotainment systems hasn’t exactly been rewarded, historically speaking. Stepping outside the box with unique interfaces and unusual input mechanisms has usually been met with either skepticism or outright hostility.

SYNC, CUE, Enform – these are all infotainment systems that debuted with something new, were blasted by critics and customers, and have since retreated from their original groundbreaking charters.

Acura had fallen prey to this cycle, as well. In recent years it has been using a dual-screen infotainment system that found no friends immediately upon arrival. The two screens presented completely different graphics, neither of which were very good. One was a touchscreen, and the other was controlled by a knob and physical buttons. I could go on, but suffice it to say, whenever we reviewed an Acura, this infotainment system made our list of cons every time.

What do you think?

For 2019, Acura has introduced a completely new infotainment system in the redesigned RDX compact crossover SUV. It is both impressive and innovative, bucking the trend of past infotainment systems that have dared to try something new. The True Touchpad interface is a step forward among input mechanisms, and the system includes a number of other features you can’t find anywhere else.

So from worst to first, here are all the ways that Acura has turned things around with its new infotainment system.
