Front Air Curtains
The front fascia is undoubtedly unique. While the sleek LED headlights and angular bodywork surrounding the grille draw most of the focus, just below the running lights is a single air vent on either side. The new styling element – which first made its debut on the Camaro – results in a seven percent increase in aerodynamic efficiency, making it far more aerodynamic than the outgoing model.
Rounded Fenders
It may seem insignificant, but one key design element that really separates the new Silverado from its predecessors is the new rounded fenders. Since the Silverado’s official inclusion as a nameplate in 1998, the 2019 model is the first truck with fully rounded fenders. Rich Scheer, Director of Exterior Design for Chevy Trucks, made sure to note, though, that older generation Chevy trucks did have rounded fenders – but the new model is the first to see them in more than 20 years.
Power Tailgate
An industry first, Chevrolet has introduced a power tailgate to the 2019 Silverado. The tailgate can be operated from the key fob, using a button in the cabin, or by hand. It’s the latest innovation in Chevy’s continued push to "create the best tool for the job," says Tim Herrick, Executive Chief Engineer of Full-Size Trucks.
GM Design Logo
One cool Easter egg you may not notice at first glance is in the driver floor mat. Designers have discreetly embedded the General Motors Design logo just above the lower clip. It’s a pretty cool nod to the people who worked hard to bring the pickup to life.
Unique Storage
"Storage was a big aspect of this interior," said Craig Sass, Interior Design Manager at Chevrolet. A pair of 10-liter bins are integrated into the second-row seatbacks, good for hiding things like tablets and small laptops. Another 24-liter storage tray under the second-row can hold things like groceries, and is even long enough to store fishing rods, the company specifies in its press release.
Inline-Six Diesel
Even though there are six different engine and transmission combinations offered across the Silverado range, the new 3.0-liter inline-six diesel stands out in the crowd. Mark Reuss says that he’s "really confident that we’ll have the best performing diesel in the segment." Unfortunately, we don’t know all the specifics just yet.
Wider Bed
GM’s Mark Reuss says that the Silverado has the "most functional bed of any full-size pickup," and after taking a closer look, we see why. The bed is a whole seven inches wider than the previous version. Whereas offerings from Ford and Ram typically feature a bed lining that connects directly with the corner of the body, Chevy engineers have sculpted out a few extra inches underneath the typical bed line.
Head-Up Display
Limited to the top-trim High Country model, Chevrolet has added a head-up display feature to the range. Like Chevy’s performance cars before it, it adds another element to the already tech-heavy truck, displaying features like speed and navigation.
