In the world of car racing, there is an old adage among automakers that says whoever wins on Sunday sells on Monday.
Granted that's primarily a NASCAR reference, but the same holds true in pretty much any motorsport, including Formula One. The cars racing at places like Monaco or Silverstone obviously aren't anything like what people can actually buy, but association by name is enough for automakers to reap the sales glory of victories gained on the track.
