Here are 10 new-for-2018 rides to buy and hold for future appreciation.
Desirability and exclusivity are the key attributes that drive the collectible car market, which explains why a vintage Ferrari or a rare domestic muscle car from the 1960’s in top shape might command hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction, while a 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera will most likely be dismantled for parts and/or crushed for scrap metal.
Each year the collector-car insurer Hagerty issues its list of the 10 vehicles new to the current model year that are most likely to become desired collectibles. First-build models are often more coveted by collectors than later examples to roll off an assembly line. All of the models in Hagerty’s list are also reasonably affordable, ranging from around $27,000 to $93,000.
Of course, how many years one may have to “buy and hold” any of the rides on its list is anybody’s guess. Fortunately, each of the “most likely” rides we’re featuring in the accompanying slideshow are also among the most enjoyable models to drive while an owner is waiting for that proverbial ship to come in.
