2015 Audi R8 drops most of its camo in latest spy shots

A black prototype of the second-gen Audi R8 was spied undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.

Audi's flagship sportscar is getting ready for a new generation and an official launch should occur in the following months taking into account this prototype was wearing a lot less camo than on previous occasions. Sporting a more angular design, the model won't stray away too far from the outgoing model but will have a sharper and edgier appearance along with a few styling cues taken from the all-new TT from which it will also likely borrow the digital TFT instrument cluster.

Sharing its platform with the Lamborghini Huracan, Audi's new R8 will lose between 50 kg (110 lbs) to 59 kg (130 lbs) and will be offered with uprated versions of the V8 4.2-liter and V10 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated engines sending power to the quattro all-wheel drive system through a dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox. The company's technical chief Ulrich Hackenberg announced last month the second generation R8 will eventually receive a smaller turbocharged gasoline engine.

The 2015 Audi R8 will probably be unveiled this October at the Paris Motor Show.
