The sun is about to set on the Lamborghini Gallardo and our spies have managed to snap photos of its successor which is rumored to be called the Cabrera.

Caught undergoing testing at night, the heavily camouflaged prototype features a modern design that shares a number of cues with the Aventador. While the disguise hides a lot of details, we can see the car will have a wedge-shaped front fascia with prominent air intakes. Moving further back, there's a sporty greenhouse and the obligatory air intakes. The car also has a Sesto Elemento-inspired rear end with an aggressive diffuser and four-tailpipe sports exhaust system.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but previous reports have indicated the model will be powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 that produces approximately 600 bhp (447 kW) and 400 lb-ft (541 Nm) of torque. It will send power to the ground via an all-wheel drive system but a rear-wheel drive variant is expected to be introduced sometime after the standard model is launched.

Besides being more powerful, the Cabrera is expected to be lighter than the Gallardo as it is slated to feature a variety of carbon fiber and aluminum components. Nothing is official but rumors have suggested it could tip at the scales at less than 3,306 lbs (1,500 kg).

A Cabrera concept could be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show but the production model isn't scheduled to go on sale until 2015.
