Chrysler President Saad Chehab has revealed some new details about the 2015 Chrysler 200.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Chehab acknowledged the car has been impacted by models such as the Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima. Since these models are undeniably stylish Chehab said the "challenge was that if any of us walk into a room and look at the car, is my jaw going to drop?”

His sentiments were echoed by designer Ralph Gilles who described the car as a "clean sheet of paper" that the company is trying to get right because it competes in a critical segment.

Neither executive would go into specifics but the model was reportedly shown to dealers last October where it received a standing ovation. According to dealer David Kelleher, "The new 200 is a complete home run. It’s got that strength of a very, very expensive European sedan like a Mercedes, but it’s definitively American."

Little else is known about the car but it is expected to be based on the CUSW platform that underpins the Dodge Dart and Jeep Cherokee. Engine options could carryover over from the latter model, so expect choices to include a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 184 bhp (137 kW) and 232 Nm (171 lb-ft) of torque as well as a 3.2-liter V6 with 267 bhp (199 kW) and 316 Nm (233 lb-ft) of torque.
