Stillborn 2013 Saab 9-3 shows it face

Earlier this month, several renderings of the 2013 Saab 9-3 leaked to the web. The pictures were small and heavily pixelated but thankfully Saabs United has been able to get their hands on 'real life' photos of the car.

Snapped during a presentation with Pang Da & Youngman executives, the Aero variant has a restrained design with a bulging hood, a slender grille and small headlights. The uncluttered profile looks slightly generic but appears to have a sloping roofline, an upward sweeping shoulder line and some noticeable bulges around the wheel wells.

Power was slated to be provided by a BMW-sourced 1.6-liter turbo engine that developed approximately 200-220 HP (147-162 kW). There was also going to be a BMW-sourced 2.0-liter petrol and diesel engine but their ratings remain a mystery.

While the 9-3 was set to be offered as a five-door hatchback and convertible, Saab was reportedly considering a 91 Sonett as well as a 2+2 sports car inspired by the PhoeniX concept. Unfortunately fate intervened as Saab filed for bankruptcy in late 2011.
