Volkswagen Routan axed - report

Volkswagen's Head of Brand Design, Klaus Bischoff, recently announced a Routan successor wasn't on the company's "to-do list," so it comes as little surprise that a new report is indicating the minivan has been axed.

According to Allpar, contract production of the Routan has ended at Chrysler's plant in Windsor, Canada. Volkswagen hasn't confirmed the rumors but the company has only sold 9,923 Routans in the United States through the first eleven months of the year - a 16.9% decline from 2011.

As a refresher, the Routan is a rebadged version of the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country. It features revised styling and unique suspension tuning, but is equipped a Chrysler-sourced 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 283 bhp (211 kW) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque.
