2014 BMW X5 spied with less camouflage

The 2014 BMW X5 has been spied wearing less camouflage than ever before.

These photos reveal the model will feature a prominent grille which is larger and wider than the current one. We can also get a glimpse of crossover's headlights, but their overall shape is still hard to determine. Out back, there's a dual exhaust system and redesigned tailgate with a steeply-raked rear window.

To improve fuel efficiency, the model will ride on a new platform that is codenamed "X for All." It will reportedly enable the crossover to weigh 150 kg (331 lbs) less than the current model, despite a modest increase in size.

Engine options remain unconfirmed, but choices could include a 2.0-liter diesel with 245 hp (183 kW / 248PS), a 3.0-liter diesel with 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS) and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS). A hybrid variant is also expected, but little is known about it.

The 2014 BMW X5 could be unveiled sometime next year, so stay tuned for additional information.
