Fiat 500X Crossover launching in 2013 - report

Fiat is planning on extending their 500 range with a crossover variant. It will be called the 500X and will become the fourth model of the series, joining the 500 three-door hatchback, 500 Abarth, 500C Convertible and the 500L four door hatchback (pictured).

It will use the same platform as the 500L and will be slightly longer with a length of 4200mm while we should also see a higher roof. The same engine options will also be inherited. These include the two-cylinder 0.9-L TwinAir and four-cylinder 1.4-L petrol engines as well as the turbocharged 1.3 MultiJet II diesel unit.

Additionally, the new 500X will provide the basis for a new Jeep branded model that is currently only known as the B-SUV

Production will begin in December 2013 at the company's facility in Mirafiori, Turin where they hope to produce around 280,000 crossovers every year.
