Porsche has pulled a double take on us today with the announcement that their new compact SUV will be named Macan and not the previously used Cajun.
With this announcement, Porsche has included a design sketch of the Macan. However, with only minor changes the sketch is almost identical to a previous design sketch for the Cayenne. Check out the attached images.
Meaning "tiger" in Indonesian, Porsche uses buzzwords such as suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics to describe the core characteristics of the new off-road car.
"The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche", said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG. "The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations."
As the fifth model line, Porsche expects the Macan to follow in the successful foot steps of its Cayenne big brother. With production set to begin in Leipzig in 2013, the Macan represents an investment of 500 million euros, one of the biggest building projects in Porsche's history, and more than 1,000 new jobs.
