Land Rover Defender could continue until 2017 - report

Land Rover has already previewed the Defender replacement, but a new report is indicating the current model could stick around until 2017 - or later.

Citing an unidentified source, AutoCar says a pedestrian impact exemption could enable the Defender 110 and 130 to stay in production. Furthermore, the new 2.2-liter diesel engine was designed to be Euro 6 compliant so the company shouldn't have any problems when those regulations go into effect.

Despite the potential for the Defender to survive in its current form, Land Rover is still preparing to introduce an all-new model in 2015.
