BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept

This new concept, much like the M1 Hommage released in 2008, celebrates the 3.0 CSL, a BMW special that launched back in 1972 as well as being the company’s most successful racecar. BMW unveiled the beautiful new 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept Car at the 2015 Concorso d’Eleganza. Base MSRP is unknown.

BMW describes the new 3.0 CSL Hommage as a concept that “eludes sheer dynamics.” The way that it does this is the true genius behind this concept. Striking air deflectors, powerful wheel arches, and subtle and finely sculpted surfaces give the 3.0 CSL an incredible silhouette. Many pieces from the original CSL have been carried over and replicated for the Hommage including the massive rear fenders, roof spoiler, and the large rear wing. Even the taillights are somewhat reminiscent, if not more modern, of the 3.0 CSL’s. The classic CSL round headlamps have also been replaced with far sleeker units housing laser light and LED headlight technology. Finished in Golf Yellow, the Hommage remains the original color of its successor.

Combining classic cues borrowed from the original 3.0 CSL and BMW race-spec components, BMW has managed to find a perfect balance between the two. BMW crafted a wood-like dashboard in a tip of the hat to the CSL’s all-around wood trim throughout the cabin. Some other racing features include nicely upholstered bucket seats with bright yellow stitching and accents paired with six-point harnesses. One fancy feature to the new Hommage is a pair of racing helmets located behind the front seats, integrated into the transmission tunnel. Two interesting features are the covers for the eBoost energy accumulators mounted in the place of where rear seats would normally go. These covers feature a special reflector technology with LED strips on them that create a 3D effect on the covers.

Powering the Hommage is a powerful inline-6 cylinder engine with eBoost. This means that the 3.0 CSL Hommage is using hybrid technology and is likely to produce around 500 horsepower.
