Ford design and engineering team have put together a special edition Red Tails Mustang suitable for a 1940s era Army airstrip. In order to honor the 332nd Fighter Group and 477th Bombardment Group of the Tuskegee Airmen, this special edition Mustang GT was given a full new design to replicate the historic P-51 fighter planes flown during the time and even carries the VIN 00051.
This one of a kind Mustang has received a full new paint job including a checkerboard red and yellow colored front end, black and red detailing stripes and the Tuskegee Airman insignia along the hood. They also fitted a unique SVT performance side exhaust and 20-inch GT500 Brembo brakes.
Ford also managed to take the standard 5.0L, 420-hp V8 and add a massive 2.3L twin-screw Ford Racing Whipple supercharger. The SVT performance quad exhaust also adds an extra upgrade in overall performance.
Although the special edition Mustang does boast knee-shakingly good looks and fighter jet like performance, what really makes this Red Tail one of a kind is all proceeds from the sale will go towards the EAA’s Young Eagles Program. This program has been helping over 1.6 million young people since 1992 in motivating the next generation of leaders and aviators.
“Through this project, we take great pride in continuing our support for EAA and the Young Eagles organization.”
The Red Tails Mustang will be auctioned off at the Gathering of Eagles Charity Auction on July 26th during the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2012 Celebration, aka “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.”
