The Tiguan HyMotion generates over 107 horsepower with zero tailpipe emissions. Its fuel cell is integrated in the engine compartment along with an electric motor which provides an additional 27 horsepower for a total of 134hp.

As demonstrated with the Touran HyMotion in 2004, VW has applied their hydrogen fuel cell technology to the new compact Tiguan SUV. First shown at the Shanghai Motor Show and the 2007 Michelin Challenge Bibendum, the Tiguan HyMotion is merely a showcase vehicle highlighting the current state of Volkswagen’s hydrogen fuel cell research and development.

The Tiguan HyMotion generates over 107 horsepower with zero tailpipe emissions. Its fuel cell is integrated in the engine compartment along with an electric motor which provides an additional 27 horsepower for a total of 134hp. Top speed is 93 mph and 0-60 mph arrives in 14 seconds.

The Tiguan HyMotion also uses a lithium ion battery which serves as an auxiliary energy storage device. Using regenerative brake energy or the fuel cell, the battery can be recharged. While the battery is installed in the under the dual cargo floor in the trunk area, the700 bar hydrogen tank is located beneath the floor over the rear bench seat and cargo area. It can hold up to 3.2 kilograms of hydrogen (H2).
