Porsche 911 2.4S

This Porsche 911 2.4S comes from an extensive UK-based collection that comprises everything from 1950s sports racers to modern supercars.

First and foremost, the engine was upgraded from the standard 2.4 litre configuration (with an output of 190 bhp) to 2.9 litre configuration, giving the car an output of 265 bhp in its current tune. It should be noted, however, that the engine has recently been detuned to make it more usable on the road and is capable of producing more power if required. Next, the gearbox was rebuilt to RSR specification, using RSR first and second gears. To give the car a more aggressive look, save weight and allow for a large oil cooling system to be mounted in the front of the car, the front and rear bumpers were also replaced with lightweight 2.7 RS units, while the rear of the car received the emblematic duck-tail RS rear engine cover.

The standard wheels have been replaced with 15-inch Fuchs wheels – six inches wide in front and seven in back – which give the car better road holding but also put more rubber on the road to cope with the extra power. Given the upgraded performance, the braking system also needed attention and was therefore completely revised with blue ceramic pads as well as forced air cooling via purpose-made cowls, vents and ducting. Larger anti-roll bars were fitted to give the car more stability and less body roll.

For improved safety and structural rigidity, a full roll cage was installed as well as a front cross strut brace and crash box structure in the bonnet area. As for the interior, the original seats were replaced with sportier Corbeau seats and harnesses. The original Recaro seats are included with the car, should the new owner wish to reinstall them.

The vendor further confirms that the car “runs beautifully” and is ready to be enjoyed on the track or simply as a very fast continental tourer, as it is also fitted with a long-range RSR specification fuel tank, an auxiliary ventilation system for the cabin and a fire extinguisher system in both the cabin and the engine bay. This “Café Racer” Porsche 2.4S is sure to give its new owner great satisfaction. The extra performance of the car combined with the unaltered classic 1970s look give this 2.4S the best of both worlds.

This car was auctioned off by RM Auctions in October of 2009 at the Battersea Evolution, London.
