The power figure of 638hp was released nearly two months a go after it was finally officially confirmed but we were still left wondering what kind of performance we could expect out of the Corvette ZR1's LS9 6.2-liter surpercharged engine. Today that wait is over as the Corvette has once again proved its domination in straight line acceleration with a 0-60mph time of just 3.4 seconds and will reach 100mph from standstill in 7 seconds flat. Additionally for those of you interesting in testing out the sheer power and torque of this machine may well be interested to know GM have announced it can do the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds.

According to Ed Peper, North American Vice President, Chevrolet. "There's simply no other vehicle in the world that does a better job of balancing performance, price and fuel economy." Although we may find a few GT-R and 911 fans willing to differ with this opinion. For comparisons sake the straight-line speed is quicker than Nissan GT-R whose 0-60mph time stands at 3.5 seconds (although there have been reports it is 3.3 seconds) and it matches the 0-60mph performance of the Porsche 911 Turbo.

Also announced today has been the pricing, we expected it around the $100K and it has proved to be a fairly accurate expectation with the final MSRP coming in at $103,300 which includes the destination charge but will have a $1700 gas guzzler tax added on top of this. The price of the Corvette ZR1 can be boosted by a further $12,000 with the optional chrome wheels and uplevel interior package.
