Acura RSX Type-S

From Acura press: Available in two distinct models-the sporty RSX and the high-performance RSX Type-S-this sports coupe ideally complements the Acura line-up of precision-crafted luxury performance vehicles. With their high-performance engines, abundant luxury features, advanced safety and security systems, and innovative cockpit and body designs, the 2003 RSX and RSX Type-S set a bold standard of driving excitement and refinement in the sports coupe class.

The RSX Type-S is powered by a high-output version of the DOHC 2.0-liter engine that incorporates an even higher-performance i-VTEC system-helping to produce a remarkable 100 horsepower per liter (200 horsepower @ 7400 rpm). As the ideal complement to this high-tech powerplant, the RSX Type-S comes exclusively with a close-ratio, 6-speed, short-throw manual transmission.

The two engines offered in the Acura RSX incorporate a host of innovative features designed to deliver a cutting-edge combination of performance, fuel efficiency, and low emissions. Most apparent is the VTEC "intelligent" valve-control system, a technology that combinesVTC (Variable Timing Control)-which continuously adjusts cam shaftphase-with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC)-- which changes valve lift, timing, and duration. Combining thesetwo systems results in impressive horsepower and high torque with outstanding fuel economy and low exhaust emissions. In addition, theRSX's transversely mounted engine block has been rotated 180 degrees, bringing the exhaust manifold closer to the catalyst for improved light-off and reduced emissions at start-up.

The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder in the high-performance RSX Type-S modeladds a high-performance version of the new i-VTEC system and a fixed,high-volume intake manifold. These features help boost output to 200horsepower at 7400 rpm and 142 lb-ft. of torque at 6000 rpm.

In keeping with Acura's proven commitment to the environment, both the RSX and Type-S engines meet strict Low Emission Vehicle-II(LEV-II) standards.
