Acura MDX

From Acura press: Since its debut in 2001 (when it promptly won Motor Trend Magazine's coveted Sport Utility of the Year award), the Acura MDX continues to be one of the best selling mid-sized SUVs - and one of the most benchmarked SUVs by its competitors. However, without resting on its laurels, Acura engineers have continually upgraded the MDX to include more features that better satisfy market desires. For 2010, the MDX gets notably better in the form of a new engine and transmission, a revised chassis, more comfort, improved technology and a fresh new exterior look.

However, the 2010 MDX doesn't abandon the core elements that have made it a winner in the eyes of automotive journalists. Still present is strong (yet efficient) V-6 power, Nürburgring tuned suspension, Acura's acclaimed Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system, ACE™ body structure that helps deliver top crash safety ratings, a luxury interior with room for seven passengers and a cache of advanced features including: Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™ and a spectacular 10-speaker Acura/ELS Surround® Premium Audio System. And for 2010, the MDX delivers even more luxury features as standard - such as a power operated tailgate and rearview camera now offered on every MDX model.

For 2010, the MDX gets a new 3.7L V-6 engine that has a more usable power curve, improved fuel efficiency and an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission. Ride and handling has been enhanced due to new lighter 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, revised power steering system, stiffer rear trailing arm mounting, body rigidity improvements, reduced overall NVH and retuning of the available Active Damper System.

To deliver a seamless blend of power, refinement and efficiency, the MDX features the latest-generation Acura 3.7-liter VTEC® V-6 engine. As large as any engine in the Acura product line, the all-aluminum powerplant has single overhead camshaft cylinder heads and 24 valves, with the intake valves actuated by Acura's acclaimed VTEC® (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control®) system. The compact and efficient engine produces 300 horsepower and 270 lbs-ft of torque, with special emphasis on mid-range torque for outstanding overall driving character.
The MDX's evolved 3.7L V-6 uses a more rigid cylinder block, high-strength crankshaft, heavy-duty connecting rods, high compression-ratio pistons, cylinder heads with improved cooling, exclusive camshaft specs, a new 2-rocker arm design VTEC® valvetrain system, more performance oriented camshaft specs when in VTEC®, new intake valve springs, a new EGR system, unique long-reach spark plugs, a larger throttle body among other features.

The engine reflects Acura's unwavering commitment to the environment with excellent fuel efficiency given its power output. The MDX achieves an EPA rated city/highway fuel economy of 16/21 mpg*- which give it a best-in-class combination of fuel economy and power. For all its performance, the MDX's V-6 is also very clean as it meets EPA TIER 2-BIN 5 and CARB LEV II ULEV emission standards, and it has close-coupled catalytic converters to ensure efficient cold-start emissions control.

The 3.7L V-6 is coupled with a brand-new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission along with a new multi-clutch torque converter. With comparatively "short" gearing in the first five forward gears, acceleration is enhanced- while fuel economy and quiet cruising are optimized with a relaxed Sixth gear ratio. The transmission offers two automatic shift modes, or can be operated manually via racing-inspired steering wheel paddle shifters. Grade Logic Control, Shift Hold Control and Cornering G Shift Control make the new 6-speed the most advanced automatic transmission ever offered by Acura.

The 2010 MDX features Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®), Acura's advanced drivetrain system that delivers quick, precise all-wheel-drive response. SH-AWD® distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles, but also between the left and right rear wheels. The system's unique "torque vectoring" direct yaw control feature helps make the MDX exceptionally neutral handling under power, for greater handling precision and control. Along with its dry-pavement handling advantages, the MDX's SH-AWD® system also offers excellent all-season capability and requires no driver intervention to operate.
