Kickstarter Campaign Aims to Create a World-Class Auto Museum
Many a car enthusiast has dreamed of presiding over a sprawling collection of classic and rare cars, one day hoping to create their own car museum. Admittedly, it’s a long road to travel—pun intended—but not an impossible one. Globe-trotting automotive devotee and museum curator Miguel Llorente shares that exciting dream, except he’s not dreaming anymore. He’s taking action to turn his museum dreams into reality, beginning with a new Kickstarter campaign—Curator on the Go. In the longterm, Llorente hopes to open a world-class public automotive museum in the United Arab Emirates, what he referred to as a “Petersen of the East”, showcasing the world’s most important automotive creations. Short-term, he’s planning to criss-cross the USA, stopping at 80 of the nation’s best automotive institutions to research this museum endeavor and highlight each of the stops along the way. Want to support his goal? His Curator on the Go Kickstarter campaign is the first part of the adventure. RELATED: Kickstarter Project Turns Wheelchairs into Amazing Halloween Costumes
Llorente’s 80 museum research trip is scheduled to begin on September 7th in Iowa, first heading west towards Washington and California, before dipping south through Arizona and Texas, and then spanning the midwest and scads of institutions on America’s east coast.
Planned stops include the famed LeMay Museum (Tacoma, Washington), Jay Leno’s Garage (Burbank, California), the Petersen Museum (Los Angeles, California), the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center (Irvine, California), the Henry Ford Museum (Dearborn, Michigan), and the National Corvette Museum (Bowling Green, Kentucky).
It won’t be Llorente’s first exploit either. In the past, Llorente has co-hosted the YouTube series Open Roads, driven and blogged across the PanAmerican highway in a vintage Mercedes wagon, curated the Al Ain Classic Car Museum in the United Arab Emirates, and even located a rarified Mercedes-Benz 300SL “gullwing” on the backroads of Cuba.
Curator on the Go marks a significant step towards curating his own public classic car museum. Miguel, best of luck!
