New Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer Poised for Range-Topping Luxury
Jeep may make vehicles that are ready to get dirty, climbing through mud and over rocks, but that doesn't mean the brand can't produce something more refined. That newfound refinement will come in the form of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer when the two return to the company's lineup as luxury vehicles. Both are due to make a comeback after 2019, and according to brand head Mike Manley, will move Jeep firmly into luxury car territory. Although both will be luxury, it'll be the Grand Wagonner that will be the most upscale of the two. RELATED: See Images of the 1984 Jeep Wagoneer
According to Automotive News, Manley said, "The Wagoneer name represents, historically, the pinnacle of premium for the Jeep world," and they don't plan to change that image. He went on to describe the Grand Wagoneer as being a premium version of the Wagoneer the same way the Overland and Summit badge are applied to other jeep products.
The last time the Grand Wagoneer was produced was back in 1991. CEO Sergio Marchionne said the new Jeeps will be built at FCA's Warren Truck Assembly Complex. That plant currently makes Ram 1500s, but those will be moving to Sterling Heights Assembly for the 2018 model year leaving the plant ready to build luxury Jeeps.
