5 Stunning Cars Headed to The Quail in Monterey

Each August the automotive community turns its attention to the sleepy seaside town of Monterey, California, for the international phenomenon known as Monterey Car Week. Events will run from August 16th through the 21st, but it's Friday the 19th that will surely be circled on every calendar, considering that's when "The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering" takes place. Running $600, and allocated through a random lottery, tickets to this event are exclusive and don't come cheap, but with over 200 of the rarest vehicles on the planet scheduled to be on display, it's worth it if you've got the funds, and desire to walk on hallowed grass. Those fortunate enough to attend the event will be treated to a wide variety of automobilia in a setting unlike any other. With themes for 2016 ranging from A Retrospective Of Laguna Seca Raceway, 50th Anniversary Of The Lamborghini Miura, and 100th Anniversary Of BMW, just to name a few. Bottom line, this event will feature a mix of beautiful hardware from many eras, and of varying purpose, here are five vehicles we're particularly looking forward to seeing on the lush lawns of The Quail. Give me fuel, give me fire, give me a 1934 Packard chassis with custom coachwork owned by James Hetfield of Metallica. Along his beautiful machine—aptly-named Aquarius—you should be able to spot Hetfield having a grand ol' time at The Quail. Or just standing there crushing beers the whole time. 1966 Lola Mk2 T70 Can-Am

Originally a roadster when it left the factory in London back in 1966, this Lola was eventually given a hard top and is still used in a number of vintage races around the U.S. RELATED: See Photos of the 1963 Lola MkVI GT  2016 Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus

This is the class-winning Scuderia from the 2015 24 Hours Of Nurburgring—so it's not just all show and no go. Even if it wasn't, I'd still be lusting after it. Those mirrors are a work of art. RELATED: See More of the 2016 Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus 1957 Lancia Aurelia B20 ‘Outlaw’ Coupe

Of these five vehicles, this Lancia "Outlaw" Coupe seems to have the most presence, probably because it looks like something a classic Bond villain would drive. It also has quite the prestigious history, having won its class at the 1951 24 Hours Of LeMans by a full lap, and placing second overall in the Mille Miglia. 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder

Maybe it's too predictable to say this 550 Spyder is the prettiest car of the bunch. This is a proper racecar, with rich history and enough pedigree to earn it the title of "The Most Significant Porsche Class Winner" at Amelia Island in 2008. That's all well-and-good, but the steel wheels, single exit exhaust, and exceptional blue paint are really what do it for me. RELATED: See More of the 1953 Porsche 550 Spyder
